Special celebration with a Japan­ only Ferrari F50 bespoke model, Ferrari J50
2016 marks the 50th year since the first Ferrari was officially registered in Japan To celebrate this milestone, a series of special Ferrari events have been held, including Ferrari Racing Days, Hokkaido Rally, Osaka Riverside Party International Cavalcade.
To wrap up this momentous Ferrari year, “Ferrari 50 Year in Japan Anniversary Finale was held at the New National Art Museum in Tokyo and over 300 passionate guests attended the exclusive Ferrari event.
At the entrance to the venue were displayed a Ferrari 275GTB , which was the model that this anniversary celebrates the importation in 1966 of, as well as a Ferrari GTC4Lusso, latest 12­cylinder model introduced in 2016. Facing them was a row of all the of
Ferrari models in the current Ferrari lineup that warmly welcomed the guests.
The highlight of this Ferrari Finale event was the unveiling of the Ferrari J50, a new limited edition Ferrari model – the first Fuori Serie Ferrari model developed specifically for Ferrari Japan. The Ferrari J50 is designed with the notion of futuristic, exotic and unique mind. Among the limited edition Ferrari models it has unveiled to date, this is clearly the one with the most fresh styling and might serve as the blueprint for future Ferrari designs.
This Ferrari finale event was an appropriate climax to a year packed with special events, and left the audience excited about future of the brand.
The Ferrari F50 is a mid-engined range-topping sports car made by Ferrari. The Ferrari F50 was introduced in 1995. The Ferrari F50 interior is a two-door, two seat roadster with a removable hardtop. Ferrari F50 has a 4.7 L naturally aspirated 60-valve V12 engine that was developed from the 3.5 L V12 used in the 1990 Ferrari 641 Formula One car.

Only 349 Ferrari F50s were made. The last Ferrari F50 was produced in Maranello, Italy, in July 1997.

The Ferrari F50 engine predated the car; it was used in the Ferrari 333 SP for the American IMSA series in 1994, allowing it to become eligible for the stock engine WSC category.
Following the motorsport theme, Ferrari developed the Ferrari F50 GT, a prototype based on the Ferrari F50 that was built to compete in GT1-class racing. The Ferrari F50 GT had a fixed roof, large rear spoiler, new front spoiler and many other adjustments. The 4.7 litre V12 Ferrari F50 GT engine was tuned to generate around 750 bhp (559 kW). In testing in 1996 the Ferrari F50 GT proved to be quicker even than the Ferrari 333SP, but this went unnoticed as Ferrari cancelled the Ferrari F50 GT project, instead focusing on Formula One. Ferrari sold off the three complete Ferrari F50 GT chassis that were built–the test car 001, 002 and 003. Ferrari F50 GT Chassis 002 and 003 had bodies fitted before being sold. The remaining three Ferrari F50 GT tubs were reportedly destroyed.

A custom-made Ferrari F50 variant named the Ferrari Bolide was commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei in 1998 and delivered in the same year. It used the Ferrari F1 derived V12 engine and the same chassis, but was completely redesigned due to the monocoque construction of the body on the Ferrari F50. One Ferrari F50 coupe was produced in the coupe configuration. Very few images and no official performance statistics of this Ferrari F50 coupe are available. At least one Ferrari F50 RHD was produced for the sultan, and was subsequently bought by a Ferrari collector in Ireland.
